How to Make It
- If using egg white or aquafaba, combine all ingredients in a shaker without ice and dry shake hard for 15 seconds.
- Add ice and shake again until thoroughly chilled.
- Double strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, or serve up in a coupe.
- Dust the foam with a small pinch of cinnamon to finish.
Why This Works
This is the sour template — spirit, citrus, sweetener — with one twist: a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon that reads as warmth rather than spice. Cinnamon and agave are natural partners; both carry an earthy sweetness, and the cinnamon bridges the gap between the tequila's vegetal notes and the syrup.
The egg white or aquafaba option is worth taking during the holidays. The foam softens the drink's acidity and holds the cinnamon dust on the surface, so every sip starts with aroma. It's a small amount of extra work for a drink that looks and drinks like a proper occasion.
The Alcohol-Free Swap
Alcohol-free tequila gives this sour an earthy backbone that plays beautifully against the cinnamon — a combination the standard whiskey sour can't offer.
